This particular free paper doll has all the essential outfits; Little Red Riding Hood, Little Bo Peep, Yama Clown and the bridal dress in the picture.

Pippi Longstocking Paper Doll

November 14th 2007 was the centenary of the birth of Astrid Lindgren, author of popular children's bokk character Pippi Longstocking. Pippi, and her creator Astrid, are respected and love throughout the world but nowhere as much as in Sweden, their birth place. There you'll find a whole theme park devoted to Astrid and characters from her book, Astrid Lindgren World, located in Vimmerby in south-east Sweden.

The A strid Lindren World web site has this cute Pippi Longstocking paper doll available in color and black & white. Click on "For children" to find them or go directly to this page. The set includes three pages of clothes for Pippi and her faithful friend, Mr. Nilsson the monkey!

Cute bunny paper doll

This paper doll is called cute bunny paper doll, and cute it is! There are only two sets of clothes, the nurse uniform in the picture and equally adorable green dress with a hat. So I guess it's safe to say that the playability of this set is limited but it's very pretty to look at and is a cute picture to print out and frame, perfect for a girl's bedroom!

Big collection of cute paper dolls, both in color and black and white

I've already written about a cute paper doll with lots of clothes that is available in two versions, in color and black and white - for those who want to color their own dolls! That doll is from the Billy Bear collection of paper dolls and there is plenty more available! Some are for sale but there are plenty of free ones if you dig around. The dolls are extremely kid friendly with various motives to fit everyone's taste. There is even a big collection of furniture to print out and build you own paper doll house!
The paper doll in the picture is Rose the Ballet Paper Doll, the doll is in color but the clothes are black and white so you can decide on the color of her costume!

A 50's diner waitress perhaps, with a tray full of sodas? The print and play database has paper dolls and other activities to print out and play with. The website is for subscribers but there is a free gallery that currently has three paper dolls, Jane Smith here (the retro one), a robot and a funny looking tree you can dress up.

This Pochacco paper doll can be found on the Sanrio website, Sanrio is of course the company best known for Hello Kitty and other equally cute creations. According to Pochacco's bio he likes to play sports and is a vegetarian!

Here's a cute paper doll that is available both in full color and only in black and white. Well, except for the doll itself, she is in color in both versions. Even if you (or your kids) prefer to color your own dolls, it can be fun to have the full color version and and practice shading techniques, comparing color combinations etc. Perhaps not as creative as inventing your own color palette but kids do learn by copying!

1830s fashion paper doll

This pretty piece is from a website with authentic historical dress patterns. I can't say that I'm sorry we don't clothes like these anymore (I do like my skirts to be, well, pants...) I've always found this era to be very romantic and dignified. Check out the 1830s paperdoll, there is also a higher resolution verison available for printing.

Do-It-Yourself paperdoll template

How cute is this? Kiddley.com has these fantastic templates that you can print out and then design your own paperdolls! There are two templates, one regular with a girl and the basic, standard wardrobe. The other, a tad more whimsical, has a bear costume, a tiara, and an 80's bubble skirt. The paperdolls are in PDF format and can be downloaded here.
Tip: the dolls don't have faces so you can either draw them yourself or print out somebody's face and clue it on!

Fantasy and folky black and white paperdoll

I have a weak spot for black and white paperdolls for the simple fact that I love coloring them myself! I found this beautiful paperdoll of a character from a book by science fiction writer Suzette Haden Elgin. I'm not familiar with Suzette or her work, but to enjoy this paperdoll, you don't have to (although I'm sure it doesn't hurt either :-) The clothes are a fun mix of folk costumes (see picture), fantasy and modern clothes (jeans!). Sort of Star Wars meets Little House on the Prairie ... and I mean that in a good way. Find the paperdolls and clothes here.
